Wedding Wednesday: Finalizing your Guest List
This past weekend, Mike and I started crossing off the first pieces of our wedding checklist (See my post next week, I made a custom one!), biggest of which was the guest list.
While you may not initially think this is a vital early stage, that headcount is what will narrow down where your ceremony and reception venues can be! I found the most lovely venue in the mountains of Tennessee, but it only would hold 100 people, and I knew we would be over that with family alone.
You will find many rules or flow charts online that people will say will help you choose who should and should not come. Here are the few factors we looked at:
Inviting Children - We are at the age that several of our friends and cousins now have children. Mike also has some cousins that are under the age of 18. We are currently thinking of having children at our wedding, but even if we decide against it, all first cousins, regardless of age, will be invited.
Plus Ones? - OH Gosh there are so many rules related to plus ones! I’ve heard “No ring, no bring”, Only long term relationships, Only significant others that you’ve met, Only spouses…the list goes on. While we are still finishing decisions, we have mostly decided on a 21+ rule combined with long term relationships. This will probably get decided by your most important factor:
Budget - How many people can you afford to have at the location you want and who is paying? As Mike and I are paying for our own wedding, we get the final say on who is and is not coming. This may not be the case if people are contributing financially to your wedding.
What factors are you considering for your guest list? Are there other factors we should look at also? Are you planning on having little ones at your wedding?
