Cozumel: An Unplanned Adventure - Pt. 1
It has been a month since Mike’s and my cruise and GOSH do I want to go on another one!! I just love traveling on cruises; you get to see so many different places in one trip!
On this most recent cruise, we had a day in Cozumel, which was the first time in Mexico for either of us. I had not planned excursions for this cruise...and before people start freaking out about it, let me explain why.
We only had two ports of call: Key West and Cozumel. As we had visited Key West a couple years ago, we did a lot of the tourist things and knew the island pretty well, so we decided to just walk around and hang out at some of our favorite spots.
I had done research on Cozumel and saw that it was a small island and it seemed to be pretty easy to get around. There was the main city area, a few resorts littering the coast, a lighthouse at the bottom and a long road around the backside of the island getting back into the city. We love seeing lighthouses and I found some Mayan ruins on the island as well, so we planned to those two things, stop by an authentic Mexican chocolate shop in the city and then head to the ship.
We would just take taxis to get all over the island and most places I looked up said that the majority of the people living on the island spoke English. Mike and I know a few words in Spanish to get us by, but we were hoping to just speak English. I figured we would be set…that is until we actually got to the island…
