Excelsior, Pika and Beyond!
I feel like we just hit with one bombshell after another on Monday. I didn’t think I could go through so many emotions in a matter of hours, but I definitely ran through grief, confusion, excitement, more confusion and joy all within an afternoon/evening.
While at work, the news cut in with the story of the passing of Stan Lee. I had remembered hearing a while back he was in the hospital with pneumonia and was worried about him then. I did not get into Marvel until much later in the recent franchise history. I had watched a movie here and there but had only taken the time to see all of them this past winter in preparation for Black Panther and Avengers Infinity War. As someone who is fascinated by the details put into theme parks and stories and…well, anything really, I was so impressed with the level of detail and thought that went into the movies. I can only imagine what reading the comics would be like and I hope to someday actually read a few just to experience it. While Stan lived to be 95, I have no doubt that there was more he wanted to give to the world, but we were so blessed to have him for the time that we did. Thank you for all you gave to us Mr. Lee and I hope you are enjoying your next universe!
I came home, feeling a little down naturally, and Mike mentioned that there was a new youtube video from one of our favorite video game people, Arlo. I saw the screenshot for the video and it had what looked like a weird Pikachu in it. Mike then said “Oh yea, we need to watch that trailer” to which I responded “…..huh?….”.
Thus proceeded the most confusing 2 minutes and 22 seconds of my recent life. What did I initially get out of the trailer? Deadpool was a furry yellow critter who was speaking and apparently doing detective work…..Ummm What?! and Why?? and after a couple minutes of it sinking in…..Ok, yes please, I think I can get with this. Pokemon is another one of those fandoms that I do not know a whole lot about, but just enough for me to have an opinion on something as….interesting?….as this. It was something I didn’t know that I wanted but once I found out it existed, I accepted.
As I was winding down for the evening, thinking my roller coaster of emotions had finally parked back in the station, I was scrolling Instagram and saw a poster with Woody on it and the date June 2019. I then found out that the trailer had dropped and ran to Youtube!
I will preface the rest of this post by saying that I think Toy Story 3 ended perfectly and that I am not sold on the idea of them adding a 4th movie.
While it was just a teaser, it was great to see all the toys again seemingly dancing around happily…that is until the spork showed up. I honestly just stared at it like “What the heck is that?!”. I am not entirely sold on why there is a talking spork and that he is necessary, but, as always, I reserve my full judgement and opinions until I learn more. I trust Pixar as they rarely steer you wrong.
As far as the second trailer is concerned…Why didn’t they show more of the Duck and Bunny!? I was cracking up at Key and Peele in their trailer! Forget the spork! I need More of their story!!!! “He don’t know nothin’ about science” Oh I just die every time I watch it!! I want to watch a movie just about them and their shenanigans!!
What are your thoughts on these events and trailers? Do you have any theories on the spork? What did you do to celebrate the life of Stan Lee?
