Entering a new decade of your life makes you reflect on the past and think on the future. Facing a major event of your life, such as a natural disaster, also causes this reflection. “Lucky” for me, I was able to experience both of those life changing events in the same week.
Here I was, in Colorado, celebrating my 30th birthday with Mike, my sister and her fiance, having a lovely time, not a care in the world. Not a care, that is, until the day we are heading home to find out a large, slow moving hurricane is heading straight for our home. We get home and have 3 days to prepare before we have to leave once again, evacuating. We were away for six days and it took two of those days to get home because of flooding. Arrived to a thankfully intact condo but a flooded storage unit, losing half of our things in there.
Going through the stuff in the storage unit was painful, but really hammered home the realization that everything in there was just that - stuff. When we evacuated, we fit everything we needed to survive or seriously cared about in my CR-V. We were prepared to lose everything else we left behind and cataloging your life like that really makes you think about what is important. This isn’t to say I am fully embracing the life of a minimalist, but I am definitely downsizing what I own and purchasing on functionality.
Once the hurricane craziness settled, I finally got to think about entering my new decade and the highlights of my last one. One of my realizations was that I really miss writing and blogging like I used to. I did it for years (TheTrueDisneyFan.Blogspot.com) and really enjoyed the creativity of it. I tried a couple times to get back into it (AnyAdventureGoes.Blogspot.com), but always overextended myself with other things I was doing. This decade, I’m doing things I enjoy and taking time for myself. One of those things for myself is this blog.
So what is the basic function of this blog? To be myself and talk about whatever I want to talk about! Why a blog? I had recently tried making videos, but realized my current skills do not extend to editing, so I am continuing to work on that while sticking with a format I know and love. If I find a product or something I like, I will talk about it. If I go somewhere I really enjoyed, I will talk about it. If I find a news article that I am passionate about, I will talk about it. I am focusing on being myself.
